I do not know what the vote for/against FDR's SS act was - i.e., how many Republicans opposed it. But if the present GOP could be transported back to 1934, we would not have Social Security today. They would prefer long breadlines and starving children and blame it all on lazy good-for-nothing Democrats and their communist allies! Helping the masses never was a strong suit of the GOP.
